The wooden iron, this one in cherry, is used for paper piecing and general all around quilt piecing. The pointed end aids in the turning out of corners and the flat end , firmly pressed down, creases the seam for you without having to get up for the hot iron all the time. Wood types oak, cherry, walnut, and tiger maple. - extremely useful!! I love mine. I use it all the time.
