Custom Quilting by Jessica Schick

Interpretive/Art Quilting ( Custom)

I believe that the quilting on a piece should enhance the piece rather than  interfer with design or just hold it all together. I will work with you to desing an appropriate quilt pattern that will enhance all the elements of your piece. Prices are base on complesity and density of design. Thread painting is also available.  SEE PICTURE PAGES FOR EXAMPLES OF PRICE RANGES.

Threads
In stock threads are included in the all services except basic quilting services. Basic threads are included with meandering styles. Special order threads are $10-20/spool. For art quilting, I often use rayons, metallics and other specialty threads. You are welcome to send your own thread choices, provided that they are specifically made for high speed machine quilting. 2 spools are needed of each color if you want to send your own - one for the upper thread and one for the bobbin. A total of appx 1000 - 2000yds is needed for sizes Twin - King for an average amount of quilting density.

Additional Sewing/Quilting Services

Cutting/Piecing/Other Sewing $40/Hr
Pressing                                 $40/Hr or $5/backing seam

Making & Attaching Binding to Tops $1.50/linear foot
(binding will still need to be hand or machine finished to the quilt back)
Hand Finishing Binding         $3/linear foot
Fees are double for scalloped or binding unusual shaped edges

Complete Binding - Start to finish - you just send the fabric - $6/running foot
Binding prices are based on the complete perimeter of your quilt
Perimeter = (Length + Width) x 2
Circumference (for round quilts) = Diameter (acrossed widest part) x 3.14

Note: I actually prefer to make the binding for the quilts that will be using my binding services. All the client needs to do is send the appropriate amount of additional fabric as follows:
(Based on 45" wide fabric)
Crib/Lap Size, Twin Size & Full/Standard Size Quilts will need 3/4 yd of fabric sent.

Queen Size & King Size quilts will need 1yd of fabric sent for binding.  Larger Kings  will need additional yardage, as will any binding for edges that are anything other than straight.

Please contact for price quote if unsure of quilting needs

How to measure Your Quilt

Lay your quilt on a flat surface. Measure the length and the width in inches. Multiply the length x width to find the amount of square inches (sq") in your quilt, (L_________x W__________=Total Sq"). This is estimates the quilting fee and does not include materials or additional services that may be needed or desired to produce the best results. I do measure each quilt myself as well.
Approximate Dimensions for standard size bedding
Twin70x90=6300 sq"
Double (Standard)90x80=7200 sq"
Queen90x96=8640 sq"
King96x108=10368 sq"
X-King120x120=14400 sq"
ALWAYS ADD 3+" TO ALL 4 SIDES OF BACKING AND BATTING FOR THIN BATTINGS & ADD 5+" TO ALL 4 SIDES OF BACKING AND BATTING FOR THICKER BATTINGS. I need this to ensure that everything can be loaded onto the machine properly and to compensate for any shrinkage that occurs due to quilting.

Long Arm Quilting Preparation
Clip threads to avoid showing through or getting in the way of smooth quilting.

Press well. Gently - Not like you are scrubbing the floor.  This is fabric and it will stretch, especially if you have bias edges.

Make sure your batting and backing are large enough. They must be 3-5 inches larger on all 4 sides to accomidate loading on machine.

Choose appropriate batting for your piece and chosen quilting pattern.

Backing seams should run the long way acrossed the quilt or horizontally acrossed the quilt if the quilt is directional in nature.

If your quilt top has 'Issues' is is not the best thing, but it's not the end of the world. It sometimes helps to choose fatter batting to compensate for bulges and puckers. Please consult me if your quilt top has some 'issues'. Don't be embarassed I am here to help.
 One thing to note: while I can compensate for some off-squareness in your top (upto about 2" from top to bottom or side to side), I do not have a magic want so if your top is dramatically off-square, (like 4" difference side to side over a 48" length), it is important to remember that "sometimes you can have it flat and sometimes you can have it square, but sometimes you CAN'T have both.

Backtack seams that don't intersect with anything else. The long arm machine holds the quilt sandwich taunt and this can make loose end seams start to open. A good solution for quilts that have several small pieces along the edges is to run a line of stitching around the outside of the quilt - one that will be hidden by the binding. If I have to provide this service there is a $40/hr charge, with a 1 hr min.
Good Things to Know
Quotes may be done through email. If you provide me with a size and digital photo I would be happy to quote you a price. I can also do it through the mail or by phone, if you like. I do have a $35 minimum charge for any quilting, regardless of size.

I prefer to have full payment upon scheduling but will accept a $50 or 50% deposit, whichever is greater to schedule your quilt spot. The deposit is non-refundable if you miss your date and do not contact me in advance. The remaining balance is due before I begin quilting. Occassionally there is an under or over charge, but this usually doesn't amount to more than $10 either way and will be carried forward

Shipping is available: $10 Twin & under,  $15 Double/Standard  & Queen , $20 King & SuperKing. Shipping is through UPS & includes $200 insurance coverage, unless you request otherwise (actual shipping applies). If you require additional insurance is can be purchased for $.35/$100 of coverage.
